Grapefruit is a low-glycemic food, which prevents blood sugar from spiking. Low-glycemic foods eaten at breakfast prior to a workout will burn 50 percent more fat than high-glycemic foods, according to a study published in 2009 in the “Journal of Nutrition.” Grapefruit contains fat-burning and weight-loss properties, as confirmed by a 2006 study in the “Journal of Medicinal Food.” The consumption of grapefruit creates a negative caloric balance, meaning the body burns more calories during digestion than the calories it has. Grapefruit is also a diuretic that rids the body of excess fluid and reduces cellulite appearance.

If you want to deflate that spare tyre and get rid of the extra flab taking pomegranate juice every day could be the help you need.

An Edinburgh University research group found that volunteers who drank a daily dose of half a litre of pomegranate juice were less likely to develop fatty cells around their abdomen.

The researchers believe that the pomegranate juice may lower the amount of fatty acid in the blood known as nonesterified fatty acid or NEFA.

Previous studies in humans and animals have shown that high NEFA levels are linked to a greater storage of fat around the abdomen as well as an increased risk of heart disease and Type II diabetes.

Bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple promotes burning of fats, according to The University of Maryland Medical Center. This important enzyme is often used as an anti-inflammatory agent and aids in restoring health to the muscles and skin cells. Vitamin C, a nutrient found pineapple also helps in repair of muscles and skin. These two agents are also necessary to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Pineapple is a natural diuretic that acts as an antagonist against water retention which is important for reducing belly fat efficiently.

Mix the ingredients and prepare 2 glasses of this delicious smoothie. Consume the 2 glasses during breakfast in a period of 2 hours. Repeat this in the morning for several days.

  • 1 big grapefruit
  • 1/3 cup fresh pomegrante juice
  • 1/3 cup pineapple chunks

Put the ingredients in a blender and process well until smooth enough.

Note: If you are not allowed to consume grapefruit due to medications interference, then replace it with 2 oranges.

I can hardly believe you put the whole grapefruit in the blender, but that is the way it reads. Thinking you just put the juice of the grapefruit in. Which is correct?

  2. Angie D says:

Do you peel the grapefruit or leave the peel on? Good for fiber?

  3. Carlisa says:

I’m wondering the same question Angie D asked are you to blend the grapefruit with skin on are not?

Does this really help to lose weight?

I’m going to try this for a week and see if it helps. I already a witches to a clean organic diet and I work out just about everyday..6/7. My question is how big of a glass I just prepped for tomorrow and it was maybe 14 oz? Will this be enough..so when it says 2 glasses how big of a glass?

  6. Katie Hopkins says:

I’ve always struggled losing weight. I eat fairly healthy and exercise regularly and still my weight fluctuates terribly. I’ve been doing this smoothie for a little over a week now and I’m down 10 lbs! Im positively amazed! Going to keep with this until I’m at my goal weight for sure!

  7. Nicole says:

What if allergic to pineapple? What substitute could you use and would it be as effective? Can you add ice if we like more of a slushy texture?

Also for the 2 hrs, do you HAVE TO take that long to consume or can you just drink it quickly on way to work for example?

Eat after or is this breakfast?

  8. Suzanne says:

Is there something I can substitute for the fresh pomegrante juice?

  9. Emily says:

Is this to replace a normal breakfast or is it to be drank alongside a healthy breakfast?

  10. Lucypearl says:

Is this to be consumed before or after breakfast, or is this breakfast? Should I buy pomegranate juice or use the fresh fruit in the smoothie?

  11. Eloise says:

Will drinking this smoothie cause any affects…can I still go out or do I have to stay home…and is there a reason why you can’t drink all at once?

  12. Robyn says:

Can you wait and drink this in the afternoon? Is it place of breakfast or with?
